The time for Spring cleaning approaches, which means it’s a great time to take a close look at your lingerie drawer! Whether you’re hanging onto bras that no longer fit, your most-beloved bras are getting worn out, or you’re just ready to update your lingerie wardrobe, shopping for DD+ bras can sometimes come with some sticker shock.
Why are some bras cheaper than others? There are actually a number of different possibilities, ranging from the kinds of materials and construction techniques used to stuff on the “back end” of the lingerie world, like how fit testing was conducted or whether or not a brand owns their own factory. In my experience, when you compare a $49 bra to a $74 bra, you’ll likely find that the cheaper bras is available in a smaller size range, is made of sometimes less durable materials, may have a less refined fit, and usually has fewer “bells and whistles” in terms of design. This isn’t to say that all cheaper bras fit badly, or are boring, or don’t last! As you’ll see in this post, there are some jaw-dropping designs, large size ranges, fun colors, and pretty laces at this price point. It does mean that you might notice some differences in fit and quality, or that you might have to try on a number of styles before you find the one you like best.
As a reminder since the last time we did this roundup, all of these bras are available in sizes at least up to a UK G-cup (US I-cup), and all retail for under $49 or less AT FULL PRICE. I love a deal as much as the next person, but it’s incredibly helpful for brands to see fuller bust sizes sell at full price, because that tells them those sizes are profitable, and therefore they will make more of them. Obviously everyone’s budget is deeply personal, and you should not feel guilty about only buying what you can afford, but if you’re able to purchase full-price, that tells brands that DD+ sizes are worth producing.
