I won’t lie, I gasped when I opened Avocado Lingerie’s 2017 catalogue.
I love that Avocado Lingerie always looks unmistakably like itself, instead of fighting to recreate styles from other brands. Rather than bowing to the tyranny of the omnipresent t-shirt bra, or scrambling to crank out neon or polka dots or whatever bright, flashy detail is the current big thing, Avocado lets gorgeous textiles, fine embroidery, and thoughtful details and finishes speak for themselves, resulting in a full-bust lingerie collection that is unparalleled in elegance and sophistication. I covered the first Intimacy collection last year, and I’m delighted to present the second chapter today.
Several beloved collections return, including Chamade, Hana, Annick, Nina, and Marion, in both easy-to-wear neutrals as well as bold, vibrant colors and embroidery. I particularly like the update to Marion, with an all-sheer cup that allows the opulent, graphic embroidery to pop.
I’m particularly impressed by the new collections for this year, which feel au courant without being rote imitations of specific trends. For example, high apex bras, strapping elements, and high necklines are everywhere in the lingerie world right now, but I’ve never seen such a stunning interpretation as in Ce Soir, with a silky cage detail along the neckline that incorporates layering elements and fastens at the back of the neck with a delicate cord. Speaking of layering, playing with transparency and overlapping materials is another big trend at the moment, and Avocado’s take with the fabulous Skin, Vintage Silk, and Misia collections feels light, fresh, and achingly pretty. I love that Avocado creates that feeling of “pretty” without falling into the trap of all-the-pink-ruffles-ever (y’all know I love pink ruffles, don’t get me wrong). Instead, by incorporating unique textiles (many collections feature luscious silk and eye-catching trims), ferocious attention to detail (the matching knickers are light years ahead of what many brands offer), and unusual color pairings (I love the smoky Murano’s pop of turquoise and ruby), the brand offers a “prettiness” that feels grown-up, elegant, and sensual.
Check out the rest of the collection below. I’m hard-pressed to pick a favorite based on looks alone, and I’m dying to see and feel some of the materials used in person. What do you think of the Intimacy No. 2 collection?
Avocado uses European bra sizing and offers collections in sizes from 60-95 (roughly 28-42 in UK sizes) and cup sizes from C-L, depending on band size (which works out to around C-HH in UK cup sizes). Briefs, boyshorts, and high-waist knickers are available in sizes from XS-XXL.
Styles from Intimacy No. 2 are beginning to be available now and will continue to release throughout the year. To purchase Avocado Lingerie, you can visit their website, and a selection of styles is available at Zathiya Lingerie in the US.
