I’m not really sure how people use the information provided by Pantone when they release their Color of the Year. Surely many larger designers are already looking ahead to trend forecasting for 2017-2018? And I’m not really sure how they expect the general consumer to respond to the announcement—is the idea that we then all go and buy products just because they’re available in the color of the year? I do think it’s interesting when color trends emerge, I just don’t totally understand what to do with the info. I have to say, of the last few Colors of the Year, only Emerald held much appeal for me; Marsala, Radiant Orchid, and Tangerine Tango left me cold, and they certainly didn’t make me want to go out and buy orange blush, as Sephora tried to persuade me to do. Regardless, it’s great branding for Pantone itself, who sells Color of the Year merchandise, and perhaps the Color of the Year is especially useful to retailers for purposes of buying and merchandising.
In spite of my confused/apathetic feelings towards Color of the Year as a thing, this year’s “color”, the pairing of Rose Quartz and Serenity, is really quite pretty, and I’ve already seen several new lingerie sets that suggest the general mood of this combo. While some of these sets aren’t exact color matches by any means, they definitely evoke the blending of the two soft, peaceful colors, and I think they’ll look stunning in any year, not just 2016.

Dottie’s Delights Swizzle Bra in Petal Pink, 32-34 A-F, 36 A-E, 38 B-DD, and Sheer Dressing Robe in Sky Blue, 1-2

Panache Georgia Bra and Short, 28-38 D-K, XS-2XL (coming soon)
What do you think? Have you spotted any other sets that fall in with the 2016 colors?

February 3, 2016 at 12:20 pm (7 years ago)I always look at the Pantone colors as more of a preview of what I expect to see in the coming fashion collections, particularly for clothing and nothing more. Of course, since I started buying more Polish clothes or Bolero items, it felt like the information was even less relevant for me. I guess as I have gotten older I’m more into buying what I like regardless of whether it’s “on trend” or the hot “it” color anyway. Gorgeous lingerie choices though 🙂

February 9, 2016 at 10:29 am (7 years ago)This is a brilliant post! Despite being a big fan of pastels previously, I wasn’t actually especially taken with the double colour pick from Pantone for this year and I couldn’t figure out why. However, my mind has just been changed looking through this! I’d already spotted the Georgia as a good example of the colours, but hadn’t considered any of the others – and now I’m in love with this colour combo! Although I think for me, it’ll be sticking strictly to lingerie – but then again, I can imagine my mind being changed yet!
