Review: Maria Babydoll by Elomi

As though I couldn’t love the Maria collection more, Elomi had to go and introduce the cutest freaking sheer babydoll ever. I’m sorry, Cleo Marcie, you’re very, very cute, but this one has ruffles. No contest.

Note: I purchased this piece with my own money under my real name. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Maria features a sheer ivory mesh four-piece seamed cup with fully adjustable straps and a three column/three row hook and eye closure. Delicate white-on-white embroidery adorns the top section of the cup, with an ivory satin bow at the center gore. A sheer full skirt with an open, fly-away front fully trimmed with ruffles extends down past the hips.

I really just think this is one of the cutest things out there, let alone in this size range. It feels so light and vibrant and fresh, particularly in the occasionally-staid-and-stiff world of full-figure/full-bust lingerie. The fly-away front is delightfully flirty, and it makes the piece very accommodating of different body shapes.

I took my “regular” size in the babydoll, and I found it very comfortable, if a little generous in the cups. The sheer fabric feels a bit more forgiving than some of the mesh and laminates Elomi uses in their other bras, and because it’s so sheer, the extra space I have in the sides of the cup is very, very noticeable. Elomi underwires are usually quite a bit too wide for me, and this piece is no exception. If you’re between sizes, you might be able to get away with sizing down. Like many Elomi cups, the embroidery in the center is a little more rigid, so if your breasts are very full in the center you may need to experiment with the “swoop-and-scoop”, or even try a few different sizes. The band did feel true to size, and like many Elomi bands, it lies nice and smoothly across my back without digging or pinching.

Oh man, y’all. Oh man. This is so, so comfy. It’s super lightweight and breathable and soft. I’ve tried sleeping in underwired babydolls before, and usually give up after an hour of tossing and turning, but Maria feels just wonderful.

What an absolute winner. My only regret is that I didn’t get to wear it very long before my size changed. A beautiful component of the full bridal range, it’s also available in black for Fall/Winter. I’d even love to see it in a range of colors: imagine raspberry, or mint green, or pale yellow! It’s just lovely. Go buy it. For real.

I also reviewed the rest of the Maria bridal collection last week, if you’re looking for  lingerie to wear under strapless gowns.

Thank you! And yes, I AM delighted with it 🙂 It’s a really sweet piece, especially from Elomi, which can sometimes be loud or kind of sturdy/stiff. A really lovely addition to their collection.

Wow you look so beautiful and confident. Would you mind disclosing your bra size, it’s just that iam trying to figure out my own bra size and we look quiet similar in the chest region. I measure 33 inches around my ribcage and 44 over my chest. I think Iam about a 34 gg to h.

Hi Olivia! Thanks so much for your compliment. At the time these photos were taken I was wearing a 34H, so it sounds like you might be in the right ballpark. Of course, every bra fits every person a little differently, so if you can, I’d recommend finding a boutique where you can try on multiple sizes or an online retailer with a good return policy where you can order a few different sizes to find the one you like best. Hope you find something you love!

Thanks for the advice, I am going to try a couple styles of bra in sizes 34 g to h. I have very soft high set breasts that are also narrow rooted, what style and brand of bra would you recommend for me to try. I have read that panache bras have very wide wires so iam staying clear of that brand.

      Hi Olivia,
Wire width can really vary from style to style, so I don’t want to to say that ALL bras from a given brand are wide or narrow, but I will say that I find Miss Mandalay and Bravissimo’s in-house brand bras to have narrower wires than Elomi, Freya, or Panache in the G-H size range. You might also try some Curvy Kate styles (make sure you try one of the more recent seasons, from Spring/Summer 2014 onwards). Some Cleo styles have been narrow enough for me, and other have reported that Comexim has narrow wires, although I haven’t tried the brand for myself and can’t vouch for it. Good luck!

Hi well for those over a 42″ back size which Elomi don’t cater for in there B dolls!(mind did speak to them re this as said there missing a market as many sales there which got lost to one coming up now)
Have a “LOOK” at the Panache Sculptress Paradise Baby doll All i can say is wow just one of those things that grab anyone’s attention! just looks so nice found over Xmas on sale so yes it was tooo much and got it(yes i know not for me but it fits perfectly and so comfortable but my Xmas prezzie to me as no one else got me anything! and have a picture if anyone likes?)
But be quick as there selling fast they do a bra too match but hope not like the Chi Chi which seems to follow last models in that wires press hard on breast bone for size.
did comment to Panache about it as there items are nice(even though made in CHINA!)
    But detail lets them down
