I am not as familiar with a lot of maternity brands as I should be, and it’s for wholly self-centered reasons: they’re not applicable to me, a childless singleton. However, I have learned more over the last few years through chatting with friends about their wants and needs, and I was looking forward to the You! Lingerie runway show. The line offers an assortment of pretty, stylish maternity and nursing lingerie, with collection names like Basically You (basic bras in white and beige, trimmed with lace and pink bows), Signature You (brighter colors, prints, and lace), and Double You (a line of maternity tank tops). In an assortment of pastels and bright colors, lace trims, molded cups, and matching knickers, You! Lingerie offers a pleasant alternative to basic beige cotton maternity underwear. Most bras are available in sizes 32 B – 40 F (US), with some styles going up to US H-cups, and one to a US J-cup.
I’ve been really pleased, doing the cursory research I’ve done so far into the maternity/nursing market, to see that companies are actively working to make lingerie that is pretty and offers new mothers a sense of loveliness at a time when they may feel tired, harried, overwhelmed, or nervous. However, I wondered, looking at the catalogue images, if the aggressive sex-bomb-ification of some of the newer maternity lines mightn’t be off-putting or intimidating to some women. I know when I feel ill or tired the last thing I want to worry about is how hot I look. The You! Lingerie show was an example of when a runway show really transcends the catalogue and clarifies the line’s direction.
Because it was a GREAT show. When I checked in for my seat assignment Lauren (of RichPR, the founder of Lingerie Fashion Week) said “You are going to LOVE this show. The models are incredible.” That was a bit of an understatement.
With sassy, over-the-top hair and wild, colorful makeup, perched in sky-high hot pink pumps with pink bows, the models were INSANELY incredible. They were all in various stages of their pregnancies (and I heard after the fact that one model’s due date was the day of the show. She’s a hero), and they all walked far more fiercely down the runway than I might ever be able to, pregnant or otherwise.
While the collection was certainly girly (pink is You! Lingerie’s signature color, after all), I liked seeing a nice mix of classic styles, from stripes to dots to all-over lace to smooth molded cups to lace side slings.

We loved this unusual purple-mauve bra with orange lace overlay. Orange was everywhere at LingerieFW and at the trade shows, so it’s fun to see that the trend is available in a maternity bra as well!
Walking to songs like “Run the World (Girls)” and “Sexy Back”, the models looked like they felt as fantastic as they appeared. There were lots of big grins and strutting poses, and audience seemed absolutely delighted. Any concerns I’d had about the line offering “look sexy because looking sexy is important” lingerie disappeared in the face of models who looked only like they FELT amazing.

I didn’t get the world’s greatest picture of it, but that blue and black bra? Absolutely fantastic. Blue + black lace is the best.
The show ended with lots of enthusiastic cheering and clapping. It’s really lovely to see a brand that seems to care so much for its customers’ emotional well-being. In person the lingerie, while adorable, doesn’t feel designed with the viewer in mind: the delight of the show was seeing the joy and fun it brought to the women wearing it. I can’t wait to see what You! Lingerie does next!

August 7, 2013 at 11:55 am (10 years ago)Oh, this is so nice! I think colorful pieces often tend to take out the “sexy” factor to add on the fun factor -which seems somehow important for a mother-to-be (in my opinion, which is not accurate since I’ve never been near a pregnancy). This, together with the comfort I expect on a maternity bra, makes this brand a really nice choice! One thing I noticed is that the models are wearing high-heels, I think. And w-o-w. True heroes. The babydoll and the striped set are my favorite!

August 7, 2013 at 3:05 pm (10 years ago)I had not heard of this brand before, but I like what I see here! We’d love to bring in a maternity line in the future, and Cake Lingerie is one we were thinking about but this should be in contention too.

August 7, 2013 at 11:41 pm (10 years ago)Oh my goodness! I don’t plan on having children for 5-10 years, but I saved this wonderful brand to my favourites for future reference.
Thank you for this post! I’m so glad I won’t be limited to black and beige for pregnancy and nursing!
The brand does seem to focus on “sex-bomb-ification”, yet I personally see that aspect as more ‘look-sexy-for-yourself’ rather than ‘look-sexy-for-men/significant-others’.

August 8, 2013 at 3:59 pm (10 years ago)I so agree with you. The ladies looked amazing, but so much of that was because they looked like they were having a swell time. So nice to know that there are fun brands like this!

August 8, 2013 at 4:00 pm (10 years ago)The models were heroes, truly. I wore heels for about thirty minutes at one of the shows and insisted on sitting down the whole time. They put me to shame.

August 8, 2013 at 2:33 pm (10 years ago)As a nursing mother I must state that I love, love, love You!Lingerie. Their offerings are sexy, comfortable, and maintain the esthetics of form and function. I always feel better when stepping out in their lingerie. Finally, a maternity/nursing brand that won’t make you feel self conscious if a bra strap accidentally pops out! Highly, highly recommend!
