Sweet Nothing Du Jour: 4/11/13

I’m sorry y’all.  This is a super boring one.  It’s so boring.  I know, I know, my goal in life is to bring you the pretty things, but hello, my name is Sweets, I am wearing boring knickers today, and they feel INCREDIBLE:

Maxi brief by Sloggi, multipack. Super hot, no?

Maxi brief by Sloggi, multipack. Available in sizes 10-26 (UK).  Super hot, no?

Okay, look, hear me out.

I have this awesome dress, see?

Drape Jersey Dress. Available in sizes 08-18 (UK) Curvy/Really Curvy and Really Curvy/Super Curvy (some sizes sold out). £55.00 (about $88.09 USD)

Drape Jersey Dress by Pepperberry. Available in sizes 08-18 (UK) Curvy/Really Curvy and Really Curvy/Super Curvy (some sizes sold out). £55.00 (about $88.09 USD)

It fits my boobs, falls to my knees, hugs my waist, repels cat fur, and makes me feel super glamorous.  I wear a scarf with it at the office and whip my cleavage out afterwards.  It rules.  The other thing it does is caress my tush without also caressing my belly.  I love this, because it makes me look like I actually HAVE a tush, but all of a sudden my knickers are really in the spotlight.  I’ve tried all the briefs I own.  I’ve tried the really uncomfortable shapewear shorts that I hate wearing.  I’ve tried thongs, but my feelings on thongs remain unchanged (newbies: thongs are the worst and I hate them).  Tights help somewhat, but tights are slinky, and the dress is slinky, and tights make the dress’s lining ride up around my waist by the time I get to work.  I don’t get THAT bent out of shape about visible panty lines, because I have other things I’d rather worry about, but in this case I really did want to find a comfortable solution.

Enter the giant cotton knickers above.  The rise is high enough to sit right at my belly button and lie smoothly over my hips, the leg line is low enough that panty lines aren’t an issue, they’re black so they go with all my bras, and they’re cotton, so the dress’s lining stays put.  Frankly, they’re comfy as hell.  They’re SO comfy.  I’m not switching to giant knickers exclusively, but I’m really, really glad I’ve added these to my rotation of bikini briefs and shorties.  For the gym, for slinky dresses, and for certain times of the month, these are going to become my go-to.

Available in a 3-pack from Figleaves, which is currently running a 20% off full-price items Spring promotion with the code ‘TWENTY ‘.  There are a TON of gorgeous Spring lingerie and swim styles hitting the site.  There are also boring giant cotton knickers.  Have at it.

I think the world needs to realize that there is no shame in big underwear. I love a nice pair of soft, cozy, big underwear. They do not give me an enormous wedgie, and for that I am thankful.

Seriously. Don’t get me wrong, I loooove my matching sets, but sometimes I just. can’t. do. it. with the tiny knickers.

I love big knickers! I think they look quite nice too. I wish there were more matching sets with big knickers.

I have that dress in red and it is quite possibly the most flattering garment I’ve ever worn. But I wear it with tights and by the time I have walked from my house to the bus stop the lining is bunched up round my waist. I’m so glad it’s not just me!! But I don’t really want completely bare legs – have you found a solution, do you just go with bare legs? Do stockings work better?

Oh man, I wish I’d been able to snag the red 🙂 It’s NOT just you! I want to wear mine with my sassy hosiery so badly, and I think it’s just not meant to be. It’s finally warm enough for bare legs, and so far all is going much better today. Stockings/hold-ups are maybe a teensy bit better than tights? There’s still quite a bit of slipping and sliding and bunching, though, because there’s nothing to kind of grip the lining around your thighs. It’s a shame, because otherwise it would be perfect, but I’ll settle for close-enough.

I got the very last red on in my size and I was soooooo happy! If it wasn’t for the bunching issue I would have got the black too. It’s still not warm enough for bare legs here in London and I kind of think of it as a winter dress anyway. This might be ridiculous but I wonder if I could sew something round the bottom of the lining that would stop it riding up. I’m imagining something like the stuff that stops strapless bras falling down. I’ll probably never get round to it though…Thanks Sweets, I adore your blog. xxx

I was wondering about a solution too. I’m a huge fan of the soft bones Bravissimo uses in their basque, and I was trying to think of a way they could be incorporated into the lining to get it to hold still but still be, you know, wearable, but I can’t really conceive of it ever working. Thank you so much for your kind words, and enjoy your awesome red dress!

How about a silk half slip? My half slip and I are in a beautiful relationship & it saves my tights.

The issue we have with this dress is that there’s already too much slip(pyness) 🙂 It has a mesh slip/lining built in, which is great for smoothing, but without the friction of bare skin it’s around your waist in five steps. With a half slip (I LOVE half slips, they are awesome), it would be up there in two steps.

I have been looking for a pair of daily-wear high-waisted panties for forever. Glad to hear a good review of these–I’d seen on them on figleaves but wasn’t sure whether to give them a shot. I am also planning to be a full member of the giant-knicker-lovers (hehe) club.

Erica had mentioned Sloggi to me a while ago as a good basic-undies brand, and I’m so glad I finally decided to try them. Welcome to the club, we have cake here 🙂

This is totally my everyday underwear style. That means I’m really hip or channeling my grandma. They’re so comfortable though and great with dresses when you live in the permanent windstorm that is the South in the spring.

The wind-fighting properties are just now becoming clear to me. I’m feeling more and more satisfied with this new, granny-er knicker course I’m charting.

There’s nothing like giant panties to make you feel better when your entire damn skirt blows up when you’re walking down the sidewalk! I have multiple colors to coordinate with dresses for just this reason. I don’t know how Marilyn Monroe made it look so good.

I LOVE those knickers. They are not boring, they’re doing simple right and there are so many brands out there that don’t. Also, I wish those dresses came in my size as I would die for anything that actually repels cat fur.

    xo HAPPY FRIDAY!

I have opted for big knickers, ever since kids came into the equation. Great help they are. LOL.
