[Harlow & Fox generously provided the Serena Rose samples for review and loaned the Serena Ivory robe for these photos. I was not compensated for this post, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.]
Today’s is a long post BUT IT’S A GOOD ONE, so be sure to read to the end! Not only am I reviewing a beautiful brand-new collection from Harlow & Fox, not only did I get to borrow the froofiest of froofy robes and twirl around in it, but also one of you will get to bask in fancy undercrackers as well, thanks to a generous giveaway! Let’s take a look at the lingerie first and then we’ll get to the giveaway details.
This season Harlow & Fox has introduced two sister collections: Serena Ivory and Serena Rose. These feel like the most overtly bridal collections I’ve seen yet from the brand, but I am the captain of the good ship White Lingerie Isn’t Just For Weddings, and the breathtaking delicacy of these designs would suit any special occasion. The shapes of the bra, brief, and suspender are similar to the lovely Andromeda collection I wore in this past year’s goddess editorials. The bra features a three-part cup (diagonal seam across the cup and a silk side panel) with partially adjustable rose-pink silk straps. Each cup is lined with champagne-colored mesh while the outer layer of champagne tulle features gorgeous ivory embroidery. The band, side panel, and straps of the bra are all rose silk, and the hooks, rings, and other hardware are all gold. The top of the cups as well as the keyhole detail and legs of the brief are finished with delicate rose silk binding, and the briefs feature a silk panel lined with cotton at the gusset. The show-stopping six-strap suspender belt features the same all-over embroidered tulle, backed with mesh for support, and it fastens with three columns of eight hooks and eyes. Each of the six straps is adjustable and covered with rose silk. The final touch? A small pearl hangs from the keyhole in the back of the briefs, a detail that’s the perfect mix of cheeky and luxurious.
I’m coming into my 2017 reviews in recovery from an injury which has led me to gain some weight, so my current sizes are Large for knickers and 32H (UK) for bras. Harlow & Fox’s size range goes up to a G cup. My sister size ordinarily would be a 34GG, so I took a 34G here and crossed my fingers. While a bit too small in the cup (as expected), it’s a close-enough fit– yes, I’d probably get a more secure lift with a little more volume in the cup, but it’s perfectly comfortable to wear on days when I’m not terribly active. The center gore rests securely against my sternum, and the band fastens firmly on the loosest set of hooks. I do find that the silk bands can come up a bit more snug than some mesh bands from other UK brands like Freya, so if you’re between band sizes, I do recommend taking the larger size– even if my cup size were available in a 32 band, I might still stick with the 34.
These embroidered briefs are DIVINE. Seriously, these and my Andromeda briefs are some of the most comfortable pairs of underwear I own. They’re lightweight, breathable, provide the perfect amount of coverage, and I love the silk binding along the legline.
I have a thicker waist in proportion to my hips, so I decided to go for an XL in the suspender belt, and I’m very glad I did. While there is some stretch, this piece offers firm support, and I get a smoother look through my midsection in the larger size. The suspenders come up long even on my long legs (I’m 5’10”), so I’d advise wearing some of your shorter stockings, if you have some, to avoid wrinkling.
While silk and delicate embroidery aren’t as hard-wearing as the textiles that go into more everyday lingerie sets, what I love about Harlow & Fox is how “wearable” this spectacular lingerie really is. While beautiful, the fit is both comfortable and supportive: the underwires of the bra rest securely against the ribcage without bending or pulling away from the sternum (even though I technically need a larger cup size at the moment). The silk and light mesh are breathable, the briefs fit smoothly and comfortably, and the suspender belt is sturdy enough to hold stockings up for a full day’s wear. I particularly like that this new Serena suspender has six straps instead of four, so that your stockings hold up evenly and smoothly.
Y’all, sometimes when I’m sad I visit the Harlow & Fox website just to look at the pretty things. It is BLEAK out there in the world at the moment– I keep thinking of the bit in the pilot episode of The Good Place when Chidi stares at Eleanor and yells in horror “You broke the world.” [Side note: please watch The Good Place, it is my favorite thing (no spoilers for newbies).] While engagement in current events is crucial now more than ever, we all need breaks if we want to stay sane, and my beautiful lingerie collections (and my cats, and their vet bills, sigh) provide my breaks at the moment. The Serena collections are beautiful additions to the Harlow & Fox lineup– the delicate embroidery feels light and fresh, and the easy sweetness plays perfectly against the decadence of the stunning ostrich feather robe, with its full kimono-style sleeves, silk binding, and generous silk sash. The whole collection is a fantastic balance of opulence and ease, and the frankly daring transparency provides a lovely counterpoint to the signature all-silk Eleanor pieces. This is another showstopping set that proves why Harlow & Fox lingerie is without parallel in the DD-G size range.
