PSA: Mimi Holliday

Tonight I had an appointment on the Upper West Side and had some time to kill beforehand, so I ducked into Loehmanns. I could do with some new summer tops and skirts, so of course I headed straight to the lingerie section. Obviously. I was surprised and delighted to find a number of Mimi Holliday bras sort of buried on a rack in a corner, marked down from $90-100 to around $30-40. It was all the sweeter that many styles were from A/W 2011 collections, all of which were named after French desserts.  I don’t know if you noticed the name of this blog, but . . .

Did they have my size? Well, no. So close, but no dice.  But but but! they had the most availability in the 28 and 30 back set, so if you’ve been curious about smaller back sizes and you’re in NYC, hie thee to Loehmanns and take ’em out for a spin. These are all silk, lace, and chiffon, and if you’ve ever worried that a lace bra will be itchy or scratchy, these will put your mind at ease.  They are fine, soft, smooth, and luxurious.  I spotted the following styles in the following sizes:

“Nonnettes” Full-Bust Bra

The full-bust bra was available in sizes:
28 C, DD, E, F, FF, G
30 C, E, FF, G
32 G

“Nonnettes” Padded Bra

The padded version was available in 38 B

“Etoile de Nuit” by Mimi Holliday

Etoile de Nuit bra available in sizes:
34 C-D
36D
38 A

“Frangipane” by Mimi Holliday

Padded bra available in:
34 C-D
36D

“Frangipane” Teddy by Mimi Holliday

Teddy available in sizes S and L, possibly others

I also spotted a few stragglers from these collections, but I’m afraid I didn’t catch the exact styles or sizes available (a mix of bras, suspenders, knickers, and teddies).

“Kir Royale” by Mimi Holliday

“Tartelette” by Mimi Holliday

“Ooh La La” by Mimi Holliday

Also spotted: a bunch of lush silk bralettes, knickers, and chemises by La Fee Verte, including the set I highlighted in my review of Derrière de Soie, for fractions of the original price. Interested in trying some luxury lingerie without breaking the bank? Loehmanns is open July 4th!

I love Loehmanns! There was one in Natick (MA), but it closed. I never thought to look for lingerie there, but that was before I realized I wasn’t a 34C…

I’ve just started making an effort to pay attention at Loehmanns, but it seems to be paying off! Full-bust brands are slooooowly creeping in, but of course it’s the luck of the draw. The Mimi Holliday stuff was practically behind a door near an emergency exit; if I hadn’t been killing time I might not have seen it. It might definitely be worth a look!

Took your advice on Tuesday and scored a Frangipane in 34D! Tried the 32 first, given my recent debacle with too-big band sizes, but it was too tight and distorted the cups. I guess Mimi Holiday runs a tad small for me. (Full disclosure: I am a bit worried that there is only a single hook, but it feels pretty secure. I guess I could always add a hook somehow.)
Now I can’t wait to find a class assignment for which to wear it !! xoxo
